PYROCO2 M48 project meeting in Trondheim: advancing towards demonstration
The PYROCO2 consortium gathered in Trondheim, Norway, on 8–9 October 2025 for its 48-month project meeting, hosted by SINTEF. The two-day event marked an important milestone as the project enters its final phase, with partners reviewing the latest results, planning next steps, and visiting the demonstration facilities that will bring the PYROCO2 concept closer to reality.
Day 1 – site visits at SINTEF’s facilities
The meeting began with visits to SINTEF’s Process Technology Centre at Tiller and the Torgården marine motor testing facilities, where partners explored the opportunities offered by existing demonstration-scale installations. The site tours provided valuable hands-on view of installations and ongoing research on pilot scale CO₂ capture and conversion technologies, giving insight into the system integration efforts needed for realizing the PYROCO2 demonstrator at the Tiller site.
Day 2 – work package updates and technical discussions
The second day took place at Kvilhaugen Gård, featuring comprehensive presentations from each Work Package (WP) lead on progress achieved and plans for the final project period. Following the presentations, several interactive workshops took place, focusing on:
- Optimizing the biological system
- Utilizing the mini-demo installation at Risavika
- Scaling up to full demo-scale and product diversification
- Sustainability assessment and exploitation strategies
As PYROCO2 moves toward its final demonstration phase, the Trondheim meeting reinforced the project’s shared vision: transforming industrial CO₂ emissions into valuable chemicals through innovative biotechnological and chemical processes.
