PYROCO2 highlights innovation in CO₂ valorisation at WaterProof webinar
On 20 May 2025, during the online event “From Emissions to Innovation: CO₂-Derived Chemicals”, the PYROCO2 project took part in a high-level conversation on the future of Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU). Organised by the EU-funded WaterProof project, the webinar brought together experts leading the transition to a circular and climate-neutral economy.
Representing PYROCO2, Francesca Di Bartolomeo, Senior Research Scientist at SINTEF and project coordinator, presented the project’s cutting-edge approach to sustainable CO₂ conversion. Her talk, titled “Pioneering Sustainable CO₂ Conversion to C3 Chemicals and High-Value Lipids for Feed and Food Applications”, showcased how PYROCO2 is advancing the production of value-added chemicals from industrial CO₂ emissions, supporting both defossilisation and decarbonisation of the chemical and food sectors.
PYROCO2 is developing scalable biotechnological solutions that turn CO₂ into C3 platform chemicals and lipids, paving the way for new, sustainable value chains in Europe. These innovations directly contribute to reducing reliance on fossil carbon and promoting a circular economy.
The webinar also featured contributions from the nova-Institute, Autonomous University of Barcelona (Vivaldi Project), and Avantium (WaterProof Project)—all showcasing how CO₂ can be transformed into synthetic fuels, organic acids, and renewable polymers.
This event was an excellent opportunity to highlight PYROCO2’s leadership in CCU innovation and its role in shaping the future of CO₂-based industrial transformation.
Stay tuned as we continue unlocking the full potential of CO₂ as a renewable resource.
