PYROCO2 highlights its progress at the 10th Clean Energy Working Group meeting
On 23 September 2026, PYROCO2 took part in the 10th Clean Energy Working Group meeting, organised by the Green Deal Projects Support Office (GD-SO). The meeting brought together projects to share recent success stories, discuss pathways towards EU funding and commercialisation, and reflect on the lessons learned from the Living Labs.
As part of the success stories session, PYROCO2 was presented by Alexander Wentzel, highlighting some of the project’s recent achievements in developing a circular approach to industrial carbon emissions. PYROCO2 is working to convert captured CO₂ into acetone and other valuable products, demonstrating a biotechnology-based CCU value chain.
A particular focus was placed on the project’s pilot activities. Four pilot units have been designed, built and commissioned to demonstrate key steps of the PYROCO2 value chain, from the conversion of CO₂ to acetone through to the production of isopropanol, propylene and hydrocarbon products.
These pilots are providing important experience and proof-of-concept results as PYROCO2 moves towards its full-scale demonstration. The project sees piloting as a crucial step not only for validating innovative technologies, but also for exploring their potential to support more sustainable and circular industrial value chains.
The meeting also marked an important moment for the GD-SO community, as it was the final gathering of the Clean Energy Working Group. PYROCO2 was pleased to contribute to this final exchange and to share the progress made on its journey towards turning captured CO₂ into useful products.
