PYROCO2 featured as a European Green Deal Success Story

PYROCO2 has been featured as a European Green Deal Success Story by the Green Deal Projects Support Office, recognising the project’s contribution to advancing innovative carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technologies for a climate-neutral Europe.

The newly published article, Turning captured industrial carbon dioxide into useful products, showcases how PYROCO2 is demonstrating an innovative pathway to transform captured industrial CO₂ into climate-positive acetone using renewable hydrogen and thermophilic microorganisms.

Acetone is a key platform chemical with a wide range of industrial applications. By producing it from captured CO₂ rather than fossil-based feedstocks, PYROCO2 is helping demonstrate how industrial emissions can become a valuable resource, supporting the transition towards a circular and climate-neutral economy.

The Success Story highlights the project’s ambition to prove the scalability and economic viability of carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) technologies at industrial scale. Through its integrated approach, PYROCO2 is contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while creating sustainable value chains for the chemical industry and beyond.

This recognition reflects the collaborative efforts of the entire PYROCO2 consortium, whose 19 partners from across Europe are working together to develop innovative solutions that support the objectives of the European Green Deal and accelerate the decarbonisation of European industry.

The consortium is honoured to see PYROCO2 recognised among the European Green Deal Success Stories and thanks the Green Deal Projects Support Office for highlighting the project’s achievements and potential impact.
